I copied a little part from "The Cheap Date Guide To Style ", in the book they try to explain what makes someone stylish, and one of the factors is a person mother..

"A powerful tool is remembering formative style influences. Children are perceptive about clothes. You found certain shapes and colors pretty , and dressing up would have been an activity , with role – playing in costumes and fun with make up and adornment." ..... " You watched and admired what your mother wore and it formed templates in your imagination, with a magical , believing grasp of what clothes might say . the memory of this in later life becomes a basis of your style." ... " Hark back to yourself as the most appreciative style observer that you were as a child, and use that same fresh eye now."

I think that the way my mother dressed and dressed me when I was a child really effected my style today.. I was browsing throw some old photos and I could really see myself wearing what my mother wore. I scanned some photos to prove my point.
this is probably my favorite picture.
and this is probably my favorite outfit. I'm talking about what my mother is wearing.
You'd think I wore this for a special reason, but no.. this is what I wore to the airport in London.
Bandage skirt my friends.
I'd love to have those boots now!
My aunt Shoshy is like a second mother to me , and growing up I spent a lot time with her, I'm sure her style effected me too. Nowadays we share clothes.
I love how she and my mom used to wear hats.
I never got to meet my grandmother from my dad side but I was told she was a very stylish woman , she never left the house without making sure that her hair and clothes look perfect. A relative told me that even when my grandma came to help in father's restaurant she wore fancy dresses and suites . I see a little bit of her in me.

"Style is what unites memory or recollection, ideology, sentiment, nostalgia , presentiment, to the way we express all that. It's not what we say but how we say it that matters." -Federica Fellini.

edit : I just noticed that if you look at my photos you can see all the curret trend - Floral dresses, Bandage skirt, Leather jacket, plaid skirt and fur coat!

What a touching glimpse into your past, Saray. Thanks for posting it.

Your theory is very interesting. You were influenced by the women around you, that's plain to see. I wasn't at all! I am the polar opposite of my older sister (who was a huge influence on my character), and my mother (whose style was light years from mine).

i can certainly see where you got your sense of style. your mother is beautiful, and i love how she dressed you as a child.
you're right- we form many of our ideas and perceptions as children, especially basic concepts such as color and shape.
but also, it's how you wear the clothes. both you and your mother look very confident and assured. that reflects very much in your clothing and style choices.

This is great. How fantastic that you can trace back your style roots ? :)

My mother wasn't at all my inspiration. Well it took me good 30 years to figure out my style. go figure. :)

Omg Saray! I totally can relate to what youre saying...I was looking through my moms old photos and I admired how she dressed up too!
Unfortunately, she was dressin me up like a lil boy for a min, but she got tha hang of it and dessed me up like a girl haha!

And you were so cute when you were little, i'll tell you, you were more fashionable than I was at that age. haha

I love this post. You and your mum look so gorgeous. I find it interesting that the clothes your mum wore then you could very easily wear now. Fashion repeats constantly. My mum still remains one of the most stylish women I know. She imparted her love of a good dress to me. Thanks for sharing your beautiful family pics!

Hi! I absolutely loved the post.
the 6th picture was taken in lisbon. the birds are still in that square, but not the old lady selling little bags with corn to feed them.
I have a similar pic in that square when I was little=)
